Haiti: Deeper Than the Earth

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of that tragic day in 2010... When an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the country of Haiti. As expected as soon as all the cameras were turned off the world forgot about the people, about the issues and their needs. It was almost like a reality show on MTV. People watched, people talked, people blogged about it but as soon as the hype ended, people appeared to forget. I am not saying I am any different, but I hope we can all stop turning the other cheek.

I saw several news reporting on the year anniversary, Most of them revealed a solemn and sad reality of the distribution of the funds and donations. They are still more tents than housing. What do they want? More money? More medicine? Or more food? To think that we can truly change the dynamic of a nation that has for generations survived on this regiment is absurd. Haiti is like the step brother or sister of a fairytale or the orphan. I honestly believe that some situations are irreversible, at least in my lifetime. How much can really be done? Don't get me wrong I am not saying cease the help that the US and other countries are providing, but I am saying you can clothe the men, but if you can't clothe the soul then no imminent change will take place.

There are deeper rooted issues that have not been addressed. There is a whole world of problems that are skin deep and are not at all connected to the earthquake. This nation has been bleeding for too long. It just took the earth to shake, in order for the rest of the world to pay attention.
GOD HELP HAITI.
